Gettin' Crafty

Well, after more than year and several thoughts on the subject, I have finally settled on some color schemes for our new house (can you still call it new after a year?). And since patience has never been my strong suit I had to, at least, start adding a few things in the rooms. I haven't finished any room yet because, well, I have a problem. It's called "what I imagine in my head doesn't fit anything that actually exists in the real world." So to combat this issue I've just had to create my own decor. In the living room, it's green and blue...think sky blue and grass green. I wanted color to balance the very brown sectional we have (which I love). I've had this shelf in a variety of places with a variety of trinkets and photos on it, but I've finally created a vignette that makes me smile when I look at it. I made the pedestal bowl with a regular bowl and candlestick from a thrift store (Total: $1.50) and glued with Gorilla Glue and coated with spray paint. The framed print was created by yours truly with PSE on my computer and framed in a $1.00 frame (from Walmart clearance) that was also spray painted black. After taking this photo I thinking it may need just one more little something...we shall see. I took one so you could see the adorable "Home" sign my dear friend, Heidi D., gave me. Here's a close-up of the print.

In my kitchen, I was inspired by a tea towel given to me...also by Heidi D! It is adorable with a navy blue and white polka dot trim and brown pom-pom fringe. (I don't have a picture!) I loved the color combo and decided Navy Blue and Brown for a kitchen would do just fine, especially since my kitchen is very white...very white. Apparently, not many people choose these colors for Home Decor...so again, I had to create my own decor. This was also a print I designed and created with Photoshop Elements. I loved how it turned out! I just printed and then mod podged it onto a navy blue spray painted 8x10 canvas from Micheal's. Cost = Less than $5.00.So, is my house exactly like I envision it...not yet. But, from what I hear it never is so I'll just keep plugging along. Bought paint samples today from Lowe's...can't wait!

Outtakes

While visiting the Maxcy household on Thanksgiving my very talented cousin, Carrie, offerred an impromptu photo session...I, certainly, did not refuse. She will soon publish beautiful pics of our family on her blog but I wanted to share some of the "outtakes." These are the ones that as Carrie downloaded them yesterday afternoon made her, Jon, and I immediately laugh-out-loud when they came up on the screen. Not sure what Brady did, but Rylee is definitely not happy about it. This is one is so funny because the rest of us seem to have no idea of the face Rylee is making! The "real" Spencer family.

Happy Thanksgiving

I'm thankful I have a blog to share news with family and friends near and far...(just a little "I never update my blog" humor).

Here's what I'm thankful for....

• A husband who makes me laugh...a lot.
• Three kids who make me laugh...a lot and snuggle with me...a lot.
• Parents and in-laws who continue to be involved in mine and my children's lives.
• Grandparents who do the same!
• Big extended families who keep in touch and make me feel loved no matter how long it's been since we've seen each other.
• Friends who listen, make me laugh, and make my life a little more blessed just with their presence in it.
• A church that makes me feel like I have a second family.
• God, the giver who makes it all possible.

So it Begins...

Another year has started...for all of us. I wasn't especially sentimental this year...nobody was starting kindergarten or moving to an older school or any other monumental school year. This morning I thought, "no big deal-a 1st grader, a 4 year old, and a 3 year old." This will be an easy first day of school. And it was, until....the end of the day and I drove up to the preschool and realized that I had no more children "downstairs" where the babies are. It made me a little teary to think about both Rylee and Brady being "upstairs" where the older kids are. It's moving too fast...WAY too fast.Rylee putting her brothers in headlocks...such a dainty princess.

From the Dark Cave to OZ

Well, summer is starting to come to a close as is our time here in Indiana (no cheering, Robyn). We've enjoyed it immensely and still have another week of fun left. But.....since there's no guarantee I'll get around to posting when I return to real life I thought I'd catch up on the summer now.Jon was crowned a Minisino at camp. This won't mean a lot to most of you but for those of you that know...it's a big honor in the boy scout world. We turned 3 and fell in love with Ariel and all things "Princess." We hung out at Nana's and Papa's looking cute and loving each other (for the moment, at least). We ate LOTS and LOTS of these...for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We lost a few of these. We bounced... we slid... we climbed... and played some more (and this was all in one evening! I was exhausted). We finally left that dark cave and landed...in the land of oz. We've watched the movie more times than I can count and when our cousin Kayley brought us "genuine" Ruby slippers...well, that just made it official. She even told the waitress at dinner one night her name was Dorothy Gale. And if all that wasn't enough, we went to the county fair last night and did all things "county fair." Such as, ferris wheel riding... corndog eating... and Indiana sweet corn eating... as always, a summer to remember and it's not even over yet!
